The nitty gritty:

Criccieth is a friendly seaside town, popular with people of all ages. The views from the beach and the promenade across the ocean to Harlech Castle and the hills are quite spectacular. Just as breathtaking in the evening with twinkling lights, the moon on the sea and gentle sound of the waves breaking on the shore, as they are in the glorious sunshine. Buy an ice cream at Cadwaladers and enjoy a walk along the prom or rest a while in one of the seats and enjoy the glorious views.

You will find everything you need on the High Street. There's a great range of interesting shops and there's a delightful old fashioned charm. The vegetables and flowers are displayed outside at the green grocer's and you'll receive a warm welcome from the local shop and café owners all year round. That's right, this isn't just a summer town that closes during the winter months!

Bring your pets:

Criccieth beach has a section which is open to dogs all year round, however some areas are restricted between the months of May and September. If you want a pub lunch and don't want your furry friend to miss out, try the Bryn Hir on the High Street where is your pooch is welcome to join you!

Beaches:

Whilst the beach is quite pebbly, it does also have nice sandy areas and is overlooked by the gorgeous castle which boasts some incredible views! This beach is safe and family friendly, with dog free & dog friendly areas. A fair amount of parking is available close by if you need to take your car with you, but quite a few of our cottages are within walking distance (just ask us if you aren't sure which ones). The promenade offers some great little café's, the last stop being the very popular Dylan's. There's little better than picking up a bite to eat from Castle Fish and Chip Shop and enjoying them looking out to sea, whether day or twilight (be warned, there are often queues in the summer months because it's popular with locals, too!).

Things to do, whatever the weather:

There's masses to do in and around Criccieth. A visit to the castle comes highly recommended by team member Nicole! There's also the Lloyd George Museum, or the wonderful gardens at Plas Brondanw and Portmerion. Why not pet the animals at the rabbit farm, enjoy mini golf, paintballing, or even learn how to survive in the wilderness at Bear Grylls Survival Academy? Within a short drive there is Porthmadog with great shops and from here you can ride the Welsh Highland Railway or visit the marina. You can even go trampolining underground! There are actually too many great days out to list - please ask us for our recommendations based on what your interests are. Of course, you can always just sit, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and your lovely holiday accommodation, too.

Food & drink:

Criccieth has a great selection of places to eat and drink for a relatively small town. With a handful of stylish, bijoux cafes and tearooms, you will have plenty of choice for a morning coffee or a spot of lunch. The half dozen fabulous restaurants offer a variety of exciting menus and then of course there is a small selection of pubs with beer gardens for you to make the most of sunny evenings. Gwenan and Claire both love No.46 for it's great toasties, homemade soup and hot chocolate with marshmallows! Peta, on the other hand, is a fan of Tir a Mor. Slightly further afield there's The Goat Inn or The Golden Fleece - both come highly recommended by Nicole!
