Top 5 Dog Friendly Beaches in North Wales

Many dog owners loathe the idea of holidaying without their beloved furry friend, but there's no need to go away and leave them behind! North Wales is one of the most pet friendly areas of the UK. Strolling along a deserted beach just after sunrise and once the sun seekers have packed up and gone home, is heavenly.

Porth Neigwl Beach

This gorgeous beach on the Lleyn Peninsula is a 4 mile stretch of mainly pebbles that is popular through the summer with the surfing crowd. At sunrise and sunset, however, the horizon is broken by people walking their dogs and enjoying the picturesque surroundings. 500 metres of sand dunes take you from the car park near Llanengan village onto the beach and once there you feel as if you are miles from civilisation. The only slight issue with Porth Neigwl is its lack of dog bins so make sure you take a carrier bag as well as your poo bags.

Harlech Beach

The award winning sands at Harlech are something very special. It's one of the largest beaches in the area and backed by a range of sand dunes that give it a wild and rugged ambience. This is an easy beach to find and there is a handy car park at one of its access points. The majority of the beach is dog friendly and the restricted areas are clearly signposted.

Lligwy Beach

A beautiful, rugged beach on the coast of Anglesey, Lligwy is not one of the 10 Anglesey beaches which has the 'no dogs allowed restriction' between 1st May and 30th September. A short distance from Moelfre village and backed by low sand dunes, its easy to get caught up in the serenity of this lovely spot and spend way longer on your walk than you intended.

Red Wharf Bay

You know those water colours of the wide bays with random fishing boats bobbing just off shore and seagulls soaring above? They could all have been inspired by Anglesey's Red Wharf Bay. Situated between the villages of Benllech and Pentraeth, and with a handy pub for a post-walk drink, this is one of the best dog friendly beaches on the east coast of the island. This is another beach not affected by the seasonal dog restrictions mentioned above.

Dinas Dinlle Beach

When it comes to pet friendly cottages, North Wales is hard to beat. When it comes to dog friendly beaches it's unbeatable! The final beach in our top 5 is Dinas Dinlle in Snowdonia. This is one mighty fine beach when you consider how tiny the village is and on a clear day you may even spot dolphins playing in the ocean. Dogs are allowed here to the north and to the south of the main bathing area and the north end in early evening is a wonderful place to give your pet a good run.
