North Wales has a great selection of all-weather attractions
open year round, where you and your children, young or old, will
all be entertained. Perfect at any time of the year, but they
come into their own on a not-so-lovely winter's day!
Our Top 5 All-Weather Family-friendly Attractions
1. Beacon
Climbing - Caernarfon
A fantastic indoor climbing facility with something for all
ages. Under 6's can have fun in the Kids' Climbing Area, older
children (as well as mum & dad) can book a Crazy Climb session
with it's weird & wonderful challenges or why not book a
one-on-one and tackle the main walls. Great staff offering great
instruction, and a great cafe if you just want to watch from the
balcony with one of their enormous mugs of tea!
2.
Bounce Below - Blaenau Ffestiniog
It's no wonder North Wales is becoming one of UK's leading
adventure-holiday destinations! Following hot off the heels of
Zipworld & Zipworld Titan, local entrepreneur Sean Taylor has
gone underground with Bounce Below, pictured above - new for 2014,
a series of giant trampolines in a magnificent disused slate cavern
where you can bounce & slide to your heart's content. Minimum
age: 7
3. Oriel Ynys Mon: Anglesey's Centre for Art &
History - Llangefni
If you prefer a less-energetic activity, Oriel Ynys Mon
(Anglesey Gallery) is well worth a visit. Having spent many an
afternoon here with my own children there is always something new
to see, and even better, it is free! There may be a small charge
for some of the exhibitions. The museum gives a fascinating insight
into Anglesey's history with some good exhibits to keep children
entertained - the 'stories in a bag' are always a hit! There is an
ever changing programme of exhibitors to admire, seasonal craft
events for children, interesting gift shop and an excellent
child-friendly cafe.
4. Pili Palas Nature World - Menai
Bridge
There are some outdoor elements to Pili Palas, but it is still
worth a visit on a rainy day. Perfect for prams and toddlers with a
selection of animals and insects to watch, touch and even hold.
Although I did draw the line at stroking the snake! Indoor soft
play and cafe.
5. Electric Mountain - Llanberis
Snowdonia is home to one of Europe's largest man made caverns.
Join one of the organised tours to head beneath the ancient Elidir
Mountain into a labyrinth of imposing tunnels where you can
experience one of man's greatest engineering achievements. The
largest cavern is big enough to hold St Paul's Cathedral!
Fascinating history, interesting displays and children will love
putting their hard hats on and sitting on-board a bus driving into
the mountain side! Soft play facilities for little ones too.
