I am a born and bred "North-Walian"! My family have always lived
on Anglesey, so you can say I have North Wales running through my
veins. Apart from a short stint in the big city, I have lived in
North Wales and specifically Anglesey my whole life. My childhood
memories consist of days out at the beach and jumping into the sea
at any beach fully clothed (much to the annoyance of my mother!)
Although, I have been known to do this recently as well…
I also remember fondly picking blackberries on the farm I lived
on briefly, playing sports in the local fields with my friends and
then popping down to the local circus & fair on Newry Beach
during the summer to finish off the day and also taking walks up
the mountain (it's really a hill) to take in the spectacular views.
Great memories! In my teenage years, me and my friends used to love
a trip to the beaches across Anglesey, after school of
course...! Penrhos Beach, private beach at Penrhos Nature
Reserve, Porth Dafarch beach, Trearddur Bay and Newborough (pictured below) to name a
few. We used to love to light a barbecue, throw a ball around watch
the sun go down, pure bliss!
Now that I have nearly left my youth behind, sometimes I get
asked the question "why do you still live here?" Well my response
would be… "why not?" North Wales has so much to offer,
sometimes you just have to make the effort to find it. I would love
to share with you some of the reasons why I love North Wales.
First of all the Scenery. No matter which part of North Wales
you go to, there is always a fantastic view of the sea, rolling
mountains or a quaint village or town to enjoy. Just look below,
you don't get to enjoy views like this on your average lunch
break!
For those of you who love a bit of adventure, North Wales is now
leading the way in outdoor activities in the UK. Zip
World, Bounce Below and Surf
Snowdonia to name a few are all must do's. I have
had some great 'family-friendly' days out at Greenwood Forest Park, Anglesey
Sea Zoo and Foel Farm Park when taking my god-children
out!
Then there is food, glorious food! I am a real foody and fancy
myself as a bit of a "Masterchef Champion in waiting". North Wales
has seen an influx of fantastic restaurants over the last couple of
years! I recently went toThe
Sosban and The Old Butchers in Menai Bridge for my
birthday meal, one word…WOW! No Menu, no expectations and I was
blown away by the food and the cost of the tasting menu, a Michelin
star would not go a miss! I also love going to The Seacroft, as
well as the The Harbourfront Bistro and the Tavern
on The Bay, they all never fail to disappoint.
If I were to try and sum up North Wales, being a cricketer
I would call it the perfect 'All Rounder'. Beautiful scenery,
fabulous food, lovely people and plenty for the adults and the
children to enjoy. Hopefully you will be lucky enough to come and
enjoy North Wales for a few days or a few weeks, after all I get to
enjoy it day in, day out. How lucky am I???
