In this, Wales' year of adventure, it seems fitting to share
some fascinating facts about Snowdonia that may inspire you
to #FindYourEpic!
1. Snowdonia is home to Snowdon (or Yr Wyddfa), the highest
mountain in both Wales and England, reaching 3560 Ft (1085m) tall.
If walking's your thing there are 6 recognised routes to the summit, which
will see you trek up to 9 miles with varying ascents. If all of
this sounds a little too much like hard work, why not sit back, put
your feet up for an hour and enjoy a ride onboard the Snowdon
Mountain Railway. However you decide to reach the top, the
views when you get there will make it most definitely worth it
(weather permitting)!
2. Covering 823 square miles, Snowdonia is the 3rd largest
National Park in the UK. Most famous for its mountain peaks you'll
find it also has a whole lot more to offer; with river gorges,
woodlands, valleys, waterfalls, 35 beaches and 200 miles of
coastline you'll need plenty of time to explore this truly diverse
landscape!
3. Known as the activity capital of the UK, with over 200
activity operators and a wealth of attractions, you'll find there is enough to
keep the whole family happy, young and old alike! Whether you're an
adrenaline junkie looking to try your hand at something new or just
looking for adventure in a spectacular setting; there is something
for everyone.
4. Some of you may not know that the welsh name for Snowdonia is
Eryri, meaning highland. It is believed to of originated from
'place of the eagles' (pretty epic if you ask me!), as eryr
translates to mean eagle.
5. Snowdonia is steeped in heritage and history, with castles, a
Roman Fort, industrial remains, ancient standing stones and much
more to be found throughout the National Park itself. Allowing
visitors to travel back in time and discover what has shaped not
just the landscape but also the culture of Snowdonia today.
I hope I have been able to inspire some of you to want to see
for yourself all that Snowdonia has to offer. I think you might
just be surprised and you never know you might #FindYourEpic after
all! Just make sure to capture it in a photo, use the hashtag and
you could be apart of Wales' year of adventure.
