I'm one of those people that absolutely loves to put a big smile
on someone else's face, so I'm always trying to think of new and
exciting things to do for people, especially my mum and
mother-in-law, both of whom I'm very close to. Here's a small
selection of some of the things I've organised that have gone down
very well indeed!
1. Fron Goch Garden Centre,
Caernarfon
We're a family of plant and food lovers, so heading to Fron Goch
Garden Centre is a no-brainer! It's an absolute gem and certainly
one of my favourite places to while away a lazy Sunday afternoon.
The award-winning café serve a fab breakfast especially, but the
lunchtime menu is also good. If you're not tempted by one of the
delicious cakes, you're a stronger person than I am! The staff know
their plants, there's a fantastic selection of gifts in the shop
and there's even a Hooton's Homegrown shop, so you can pick up
fresh veg for that Sunday roast whilst you're there.
2. Bodnant Garden, Conwy
Valley
i'm sorry, there is a bit of a theme here! My family really do
love plants and flowers...if your mum loves being out in the fresh
air, walking, or even just likes to gaze at pretty blooms, this is
the place to take them for a great day out. Stroll around the
gardens and soak up the stunning landscape. She'll be thrilled!
3. The Hayloft Restaurant, Conwy
Valley
If you want to treat mum to a lovely meal in a relaxed atmosphere
but want the added bonus of top-notch furnishings and service,
consider the Hayloft Restaurant near Conwy. It's owned by Bodnant
Welsh Food and incredibly close to Bodnant Garden itself, so it's a
perfect end to the day if you work up an appetite with a walk
around the grounds first! I have fond memories of enjoying food on
a rainy day, in the bar area, in front of the log burning
stove.
4. Oriel Ynys Mon,
Llangefni
I cannot recommend this gallery enough - the café serve lovely
food and drinks (again, the breakfasts and cakes are a big hit with
my lot!) and there is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the late
Kyffin Williams, as well as an ever-changing exhibition in another
of the gallery rooms, which is always worth a look. Especially good
is it's a wet day and best of all is that entry is free!
5. Welsh Highland
Railway
This is such a fun experience and a good way to while away an
afternoon. If you want a quick ride, consider the 25 minute trip
from Caernarfon to Waunfawr. The station is near the Snowdonia Inn,
voted best pub within the Snowdonia National Park by CAMRA several
years in a row. There's good food of the home-cooked variety and
if, like me, you're an ale lover, there are two microbreweries on
site. Wine for the mums, and an ale for me, food for all! Sounds
like a good Sunday to me…
