Description
Solceta is a beautiful new renovation of a traditional stone cottage, with a private pool and the most stunning views, which give a real sense of peace and wonder when relaxing outside. Internally the cottage has a fresh, loved and romantic feel.
This renovation is new for 2021 and has 3 bedrooms (all of which
can be double or twin) and 3 bathrooms. The traditional stone and
character loggia of the outside blend perfectly with the
countryside, and provide a wonderful contrast to the fresh light
and up to date interior, which offers all brand new modern
conveniences, with some antique and restored furniture ensuring a
sense of character is retained. There are also beamed ceilings on
the top floor giving a sense of romance.
The house sleeps 6 in bedrooms, but can easily sleep 8 as there
are a further 2 single beds on the spacious first floor landing
which also has a window. One of the single beds is made up as a day
bed so the space can act as an additional relaxing area, and there
is also a desk for those that need to catch up on some work when
away.
The gardens are vast and host a private 10M x 5M pool with sunbathing area and gazebo, as well as a bocce (boules court) for fun tournaments. Al fresco dining is catered for with a wonderful covered loggia offering shade and the most stunning views of the Apuane Mountains. Here there is also a wood oven for you to perfect your pizza and bread making!
This property is in the depths of the countryside, creating a purely peaceful holiday, yet just a short drive to a village with all amenities including bars and restaurants.

- Enter cottage into a spacious hallway from where you access a comfortable living room, with open fireplace and door to garden. TV and DVD player
- Also off the hallway is a brand new kitchen/diner with oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and dining table. Door to garden.

- 3 double bedrooms all of which can be converted to twins. One of the bedrooms has a delightful Juliet balcony from where you can enjoy the view whilst having your morning coffee in bed, and the other two, on the top level , all bedrooms have beamed ceilings.
- Large landing area on the top level which can house twin beds to sleep an additional 2 guests. This spacious area can also be used as a further relaxing area, or a workspace.

The property is situated in a peaceful rural location with stunning open views, yet within walking distance cross country to the local town which is also a short drive away of all facilities,, where there are a couple of good restaurants, basic shops, bank, bars and the most wonderful deli for home made takeaway hot and cold food that you can take back for the evening.
There are various good restaurants providing fresh local home cooked traditional food within a short drive, as well as local one off shops, delicatessens, gelaterias and supermarkets.
For relaxing afternoons out, there are lots of pretty villages to explore in the immediately locality, one of which is Castiglione itself which is a fully walled village commanding outstanding views over the Apuane mountains. Many of these villages have festas in the summer with food, drink and dancing.
Situated only a short drive from the National Park of Orrecchiella, the location is ideal for walking, hiking, horseriding, mountain biking and picnicking, surrounded by views of the seemingly endless mountains, and local chestnut woodland.
For those who enjoy the outdoor life there is also a local tree climbing/zip wiring park, with courses adapted for all age groups, from the very young to adults.
There are local adventure parks where one can try water canyoning, rock climbing, swimming in rock pools, canoeing etc and there is the Grotta del Vento, a massive cave system in the mountains which is a good day out.
There is an ancient fortress to visit with jaw dropping views, and interactive displays for children including a chance to try a little archery.
For when a townie day beckons, the local market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is only just over 10 minute drive. Here there are bars, restaurants, a famous Thursday morning market, old castle walls, the river Serchio and local train station.
The beautiful mediaeval town of Barga with its cobbled streets, great architecture, cathedral and great views is only a 25 minute drive. Barga is famous for its art and music, and here one can often enjoy free music, evening markets, dancing, and sometimes even impromptu entertainment from Paolo Nutini! Becoming well known for its restaurants too, Barga has plenty of places to eat.
Lucca, the fully walled Mediaeval City and the Capital of the Region is only an hours drive and one can spend the day cycling or meandering along its ample walls; people watching in both the grand and tiny piazzas with prosecco, coffee or ice cream; designer shopping; climbing towers, visiting some of its 99 churches or just taking in the atmosphere. If you like opera, there is a recital every evening before dinner in a unique church setting.
The traditional Tuscan sites of Pisa and Florence are easily do-able in a day trip as are the beaches of Forte dei Marmi or Viareggio. Many guests also visit the Cinque Terre...
In summary, the accommodation is situated in a very peaceful location, yet not too isolated and well placed to explore the area - both mountains and towns/cities.

Great house with modern furnishings, where nothing was missing.
Good mattresses, beautiful new bathrooms, high standard, fantastic
view. The pool was clean, well maintained and used daily. Paolo was
a great host who was always available to offer help and advice. His
brother Luca made the best pizza in Italy for us. It was a
wonderful and unforgettable holiday all round!

and surounded by nature ; the view on the mountains is amazing. The
host, Paolo, is very kind and available for any question you have.

Ideal place to de-stress and relax. Complete peace and quiet
with only beautiful nature around you. The owner awaits you on
arrival at the driveway. Gifts for the dogs, drinks and snacks,
gifts for the pool, the Belgian flag are all things that make you
feel very welcome. We missed NOTHING in the cottage, everything is
very nice and cared for. The pool and garden with a volleyball net,
football pitch, darts and petanque court were great activities for
in between. The pizza evening provided by the owner Paolo together
with his son and brother-in-law was sublime. We enjoyed delicious
pizzas à volonté in a very relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Supermarkets, restaurants are very close by. We will certainly miss
the beautiful house and its surroundings. Thanks again to Paolo for
making it an unforgettable holiday for us.

We really liked this fantastic house and garden and amazing
views. The kitchen were fully equipped, and a garden grill, and a
pool in the garden, we couldn´t ask for more. The host Paolo was
very accommodating. The setting of this property is relaxing and
very silent, you only hear the birds in the forest. If you like, go
to the nearest village Pieve Fosciana and eat at he Il Pozzo, very
good food.

This very well-kept and spacious home leaves nothing to be desired: 3 large double bedrooms on the upper floor, one with TV and 2 further sleeping options between the 2 bedrooms. There are also 2 bathrooms with showers. On the ground floor there is a very well-equipped kitchen, 2 living rooms, 1 with TV, shower room and cellar with washing machine. The WIFI was very good.
The outdoor area is a dream: a great view, a large pool, a football pitch with 2 goals, a volleyball court with net, a boules court, a table tennis table, a darts table, a pizza oven & BBQ area. There are various sunbeds & seating areas& several parasols.
The house is in an absolutely sole location: good, because it is very quiet, but note the way there is about 200m over a rather bumpy dirt road. The owner, Paolo, has built a footpath to nearby Pieve Fosciana especially for visitors. This marvellous path leads over 2 bridges & through the forest and takes 10 mins to reach the local bakery. It is wonderful to walk this path every morning.
Excursions: Lucca is 50 mins by car, to Pisa it takes 80 mins. Florence is 120 mins, here exit at Prato Est and take train from Sesto Fiorentino (Park & Ride). Barga with its market is wonderful. The Wind Caves area great and impressive excursion, do the 2hr tour. I also recommend a trip to Vaglipark, especially for the adventure via the ZipLine. There are good places to eat locally, the prices are affordable (we went to Il Pozzo in Pieve Fosciana & da Gherardo in Castelnuovo - both very good).
My huge thanks go to Paolo for his overwhelming hospitality,
where every wish is read from your eyes. I also have fond memories
of the evening with his brother-in-law Luca and his son Lorenzo,
when they baked the best pizza fresh from the oven that I have ever
eaten (and I have eaten many). Grazie mille for this great
holiday!

Everything was perfect! We spent a nice stay in Solceta.
The house has got everything we needed. The lovely village is
really near from the house with good ice creams and good
pizzas!!!

We had the best time for a week together with our 3 children.
The house is situated in the perfect place. It is a very quiet
place a few autominutes away from the road in the middle of the
beautiful Tuscan nature. But yet also very close to the town, shops
and restaurants. You can walk through the forest, which is an easy
but beautiful walk! The property is spacious with large bedrooms,
bathrooms, kitchen area and living room. All very nice and very
well cleaned! The garden is huge, excellent for kids to play.
Besides the great pool they enjoyed table tennis, darts, football,
volleyball and jeu de boules! We loved the pizza night that the
owner organised together with his son and brother in law. All
together we ate the best pizza's that they made for us in the pizza
oven outside. Thanks once again Paolo, Lorenzo and Lucca! Almost
every day we saw deers running across the field and the driveway.
Don't hesitate about this holiday property, we can assure you it is
absolutely amazing!

We had a wonderful stay in this beautifully appointed and
comfortable house that easily accommodated the six of us. Paulo
(the owner) could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The
local town is a short ten minute walk through the woods where there
are options for eating, drinking and shopping. We had an electric
car (EV) and were pleased to find charging options within walking
distance. Thanks to Paulo and family for facilitating such a lovely
two week stay.

The house is really wonderful. It is quiet and secluded, which
ensures pure relaxation. The house is very well furnished and very
clean. The property is huge and there is a very nice pool. There
were also plenty of outdoor activities. The pizza evening with
Paolo and Luca was great. The pizza was absolutely delicious, the
best pizza we ate on vacation. Paolo was always available via
WhatsApp and was always friendly and helpful. Thank you very much
for the two wonderful weeks.

We spent a whole week at this villa and it was a great time. No
neighbours around, a lot of salamanders, very nice swimming pool
and pefrect mountain view is what comes to mind at first. Rooms and
bathrooms are nice and clean, in the kitchen there is everything
you need to cook. You can go shopping in Coop that in nearby or in
Conad Gallicano which is like 15min drive. Paolo is very helpful,
he is always checking if all is ok and if you need some help or so.
Pizza night organized by him and his family was a great experience,
highlighted by his son Lorenzo stories about different types of
pizzas. I strongly recommend this place if you are looking for some
peaceful and quite place to relax

We enjoyed this beautiful property and surroundings during 4
weeks in Mai. The weather was not very pleasant but the last few
days. Anyway, we found time to relax in the house and visited
several nice villages in the area. All in all, the place deserves
full recommendation. Thanks again to Paolo and his family for their
hospitality, and the Pizza evening :).

A great location set outside a small town which you can walk into for the bakery, shop and pub.
The villa was well thought out and was decorated beautifully. The beds were really comfortable, 3 large bedrooms and a mezzanine. It was well organised and spotless! There was so much kitchen equipment which made it easy to cook.
The pool was lovely and we had access to a BBQ, covered area, pizza oven, boules court, football and volleyball court. There were lots of walks and villages to visit and a supermarket nearby.
Paola came round one evening and cooked us pizza. It was a fun night getting to know them and great pizza, especially the chocolate and banana! They made us so welcome and nothing was to much trouble. We loved it and will be back.

You can't really express how nice it was with only 5 stars if you weren't there yourself...!!! Wonderful, well-kept villa, where nothing is missing, with a fantastic environment embedded in nature with a panorama that is hard to beat... Beautiful pool regularly maintained by the owner with enough space in the large garden for loungers to relax... Also sporty could you do one or the other on the property, such as football on the small soccer field with two goals, table tennis, darts and other small board games for outdoors... The infinite peace and quiet on the property was only disturbed by the deer calling at night have sent, or interrupted by the wind that moved across the fields... Simply relaxation and pure peace...!!! Paolo, the landlord, super nice and helpful, always available with good tips for excursions and restaurants... Our two furry friends were also very welcome, they both got a dog toy and a bowl on arrival... We had a very nice evening at our "pizza evening" with Luca (brother-in-law), Lorenzo (Paolo's son) and of course Paolo, who prepared pizzas for us in their own pizza oven on the property... For someone who likes good and lots of pizza it's an unforgettable evening... Great NICE...Super DELICIOUS...Just perfect... Thank you, Grazie mille Paolo for three wonderful weeks...

The house is wonderful and the rooms are spacious. It looks even nicer in real life than in the photos. The quiet and secluded location ensures pure relaxation. The house is lovingly and stylishly furnished and is well equipped with all the items you need in everyday life. The house was super clean, especially the three bathrooms, which are very large and modern, which made you feel comfortable right from the start. Due to the special location, air conditioning was not missed on hot days, as it cools down sufficiently in the evening/at night. The property is very well maintained and generously dimensioned. In addition to the super large and clean pool, the house also offers plenty of space for other outdoor activities, such as Soccer, table tennis and boca. Here are also all the necessary items, such as goals, a table tennis table or even a bowling alley available. A special highlight for us was the pizza evening with the owner Paolo and his family. Here we were offered the best pizza of the whole holiday. Paolo and his family were great and always there for you. We had a wonderful and relaxing holiday and can only recommend this holiday home and the great care provided by the owner. The previous reviews. we can only agree, if there were 6 stars, we would also give them. Grazie mille Paolo e famiglia per il meraviglioso soggiorno!

For us it was a wonderful stay. The house was just great. It has everything you need. The landscape and surroundings just a dream. The house is off the public road and guarantees pure tranquility and seclusion. Many thanks to Paola, who always stood by with help and advice. Thanks to Paolo and Luca for the unforgettable pizza evening, with pizza from the in-house pizza oven. Our dogs had a perfect holiday too and felt like they were in heaven here. I would also give 6 stars if there were. With the holiday home we
have found accommodation that has more than met our expectations.
The house is characterized by cleanliness and full equipment. If
you are looking for peace and seclusion from the hustle and bustle,
you will find paradise here. The Garfagnana is a beautiful region.
Paolo, the owner, has thought of everything for a varied stay: in
addition to the swimming pool, there are various sports facilities
at the house, e.g. is available. In addition, he has a lot of
excursion and restaurant tips ready. You can feel that someone with
a lot of love for their homeland has created a paradise here...at
least it was for us. A highlight was a pizza evening, where a wide
selection of pizzas typical of the country were baked for us in the
in-house pizza oven. Thank you for this break from everyday
life.

Once you have reached the property via the admittedly modest access road (paved dirt road, difficult for lowered vehicles), you will be compensated for everything: a dreamlike location with a distant view of the surrounding mountain peaks in complete tranquility. The house is excellently furnished, the kitchen equipment leaves almost nothing to be desired. The bathrooms and plumbing are in excellent condition, the large pool is clean and regularly serviced. Paolo (the owner) is always happy to help and advise and also organizes a pizza evening, where pizzas are baked in a wood-burning oven on the property. We enjoyed this very much like our entire stay. Rather unsuitable for excursions to the highlights of Tuscany, as it was too remote. Lucca can be reached in less than an hour. From the house you can walk wonderfully, hike by car in the surrounding mountains and there are numerous picturesque places to discover. Bakery (in the neighboring village) on an idyllic path within walking distance in 10 minutes.
